General data

The Večernji list is published by the Zagreb company Večernji list dd. The newspaper was founded in 1959 in Zagreb. Her predecessor was The Evening Messenger, which first appeared on 24 pages on June 2, 1957 . Subsequently, it was renamed the "Narodni list", and then gave the current name.

The Večernji list maintained its reputation as a center-right conservative publication after the 1990 elections in Croatia. Franjo Tudjman and CDU showed interest in directly having control of the newspaper through privatization. Ivić Pašalić, one of Tudjman’s closest associates, took part in this process. Subsequently, at the request of the public, an audit was carried out which was aimed at clarifying the legality of this privatization, but no violations of the law were found. This newspaper was hit hard in April 1998 when the Jutarnji list began to appear. Since then, the Večernji list has lost leadership among Croatian media. Since 2000, he became the property of the Austrian company Styria Medien AG and began to lead again in the ratings. According to a survey conducted by the GfK Centar za istraživanje tržišta agency in 2001, the newspaper, having numerous regional issues, occupies a leading position among the country's media [1] .

With its 2006 Football of Hearts project, the magazine became the third in the Ifra Cross Media Awards 2006 competition for monitoring the World Cup [2] .
