History
The history of the autodrome begins in the late 1980s, when motor sport enthusiast Tommi Suharto (the son of the then president of the country), with the support of the state, embarked on a project for the autodrome, which could possibly accept the second F1 race after Asia . By 1993, the project was translated into a real highway, opened by President Suharto . [one]
It was not possible to agree on the F1 stage and the Australian F-Holden championship became the first series on the track. Gradually, the features of the track, which were ill-suited to the world of high-speed motor racing, began to be eliminated - sharp, very slow turns began to gradually smooth, gradually reducing the length of the circle from the original 4.12 km
Eliminating problems with the configuration, the owners of the autodrome got two more problems at the end of the 1990s - the financial crisis of 1997 sharply reduced the number of local motor sport fans, and in 1999 the prospect of the F1 national grand prix turned out to be very real - built in Malaysia Sepang circuit was qualitatively better and already had a contract with FOM . Sentoul was able to summon only secondary regional championships.
The situation changed a bit in the mid-2000s, when the organizers successfully took advantage of the interest to the East Asian market of the organizers of the GP2 and A1 Grand Prix series, bringing to them several of their stages. Both championships, however, soon abandoned the Indonesian stage, and A1 soon after that completely closed.
In addition to significant autosport competitions, status races were held on the track - in 1996-97, the national stage of the Moto GP was played twice here, and in 1994-97, the stage of the World Superbike Championship .
Route
The circuit is conveniently connected to local toll roads. In the absence of any official competition on the track, anyone can ride a race ring for a small fee.
The configuration currently in use assumes a clockwise motion. On the track all the bumps are smoothed out and large safety zones are created. The width of the roadbed in some places reaches fifteen meters. The length of the circle in comparison with the original project is significantly reduced and now does not exceed four kilometers, while the longest straight line is 900 meters (the fastest classes accelerate there to 300 km / h). Most of the turns of the current configuration - low-speed and only in turn 2 braking is not so significant (the fastest car racer showed a speed of 220 km / h on its apex, and the motor racer - 190).
The circuit is located in a slightly cooler area of the country, however, both heat and rain are very characteristic features of various auto / motor sport weekends on Sentoul.
