Early life

Tambor was born July 8, 1944 in San Francisco , in the family of conservative Jews - housewives Eileen (nee Salzberg) and Michael Bernard Tambor, who have Hungarian and Ukrainian roots. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School and the University of San Francisco with a degree in acting, and then Wayne University , where he received a master's degree.

Career

Personal life

Tambor was married three times and divorced twice. He has a daughter, Molly (born 1975), from a past relationship.

In December 2001, Tambor married Cassia Ostlan, from whom he has four children: his son Gabriel Casper (born December 10, 2004) and daughter Yves Julia (born December 10, 2006), who were also adopted as twin sons Hugo Bernard and Eli Nicholas (born October 4, 2009) [5] .

In 2007, the media reported that Tambor had become a Scientologist [6] , but the actor denied this the next year: “Once I studied Scientology a bit, but nothing more. I have nothing against her, but I am no longer a Scientologist ” [7] .

Harassment charges

Sexual harassment charges

On November 8, 2017, Tambor was charged with sexual harassment by his former assistant, Van Barnes. Barnes made a statement in a private publication on Facebook , where she wrote that Tambor “repeatedly molested her, allowed obscene comments, grabbed her, and also threatened to sue if she told about it” [8] . On November 16, 2017, Tambor was also charged with harassment by actress Trace Lisette. According to her, he repeatedly made obscene sexual remarks to her, and once physically molested her [9] . Tambor answered the accusations: “I am deeply sorry if any of my actions could be misinterpreted as sexually aggressive, or if I hurt or offended someone. But the fact is that, for all my shortcomings, I am not a maniac, and the thought that someone might think of me in this way worries me more than I can express in words ” [10] . A few days later, Tambor was accused of harassment by makeup artist Tamara Delbridge, who worked with him on the set of the movie "Never Again" (2001). Tambor replied that he did not remember such a case, but apologized "for any unintentional discomfort brought to her" [11] .

By that time, Tambor had left the series “ Obvious ”, releasing a statement on November 19: “Playing Mora Pfefferman in“ Obvious ”was a great privilege for me and one of the best creative experiences in my life. However, over the past few weeks it has become clear that this is not the job that I undertook four years ago. I have already made it clear that I am deeply sorry if any of my actions was misinterpreted as aggressive, but the very idea that I could intentionally solicit someone does not correspond to the truth. Given the created politicized atmosphere on the site, I can’t imagine how I could return to the series ” [12] .

The charges became known after completing the filming of the fifth season of Slow Development in the same month. The team of the series supported Tambor, and also confirmed that the scenes with his participation would remain in the show [13] .

Tambor's answer

In his first interview after leaving Obvious in May 2018, Tambor continued to deny the allegations, but admitted that he had experienced problems with controlling anger throughout his life. He also noted that being on the show “worried to death” about reliably showing the transgender character he played, and that because of stress, he sometimes became “difficult” and “rude” [14] .

Verbal Assault

On May 23, 2018, in an interview with the Slow Development cast of The New York Times , Jessica Walter stated that she was verbally abused by Tambor: “He never went too far in our show, you know, sexually. Verbally, yes, he insulted me, but apologized. For almost 60 years of work, no one shouted at me like he did ” [15] .
