Biography
Born in the USA in a family of Slovak emigrants. In 1905 he returned to his homeland with his mother. The financial situation in the family of the future poet was very difficult, but nevertheless F. Kral managed to graduate from the teacher training college in Spisska Nova Ves . During his studies, due to a lack of funds, Krall was forced to seek additional income, fell ill with typhoid fever , which left an indelible mark on his body, then a complication led to lung disease. Drafted into military service, he fell ill with tuberculosis and was demobilized. He was treated for some time, then worked as a teacher in Modri-Kamen . Member of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia since 1921.
In 1931 he moved to Bratislava, but due to communist views, he was dismissed from his job and retired early. During the fascist regime in Slovakia was underground.
After the Second World War, F. Kral worked in the Ministry of Education, was a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia , a member of the Slovak National Council and a member of the Presidium of the Union of Czechoslovak Writers. In 1953 he was awarded the title of People's Writer of Czechoslovakia .
Creativity
The beginning of the literary activity of F. Kral refers to the period of his stay in treatment in hospitals and sanatoriums in Slovakia, when he published his first poems. During his treatment in the Czech Republic, meetings with progressive writers Jiří Volker , Vitezslav Nezval and others had a great influence on Kral’s work.
Initially, he created his works under the influence of proletarian poetry, later poetry and symbolism . In his novels reflected the socio-political situation in Slovakia between the two world wars, the horrors and suffering of the war.
In the social novel The Thorny Way (1934), he criticized the bourgeois system, realistically depicting the revolutionary struggle of the Slovak peasants for social freedoms. The novel "Meeting" (1937) - anti-war and anti-fascist trends. The novel “It Will Be As It Was” (1950), a collection of poems “In the Spring Way” (1952) - about socialist transformations in the country.
F. Krall wrote a number of works for children and youth.
