Stocker, Frank

Frank Owen Stoker ( born May 29, 1867 , Dublin , Ireland - January 8, 1939 , Dublin ) is an Irish tennis player and rugby player , [1] a two-time winner of the Wimbledon men's doubles tournament. The cousin of the writer Bram Stoker .

General Information

In the doubles category, Frank Stoker won the Wimbledon tournament twice (in 1890 and in 1893 , together with another Irishman Joshua Pim ) [1] and in the finals in 1891 (the English, the twin brothers Wilfred and Herbert Baddeley opposed the Irish,); five times won the Championship of Ireland (1890, 1891, 1893-1895).

In singles, his achievements were much more modest: the second round of the Wimbledon tournament (1893, lost to Wilberforce Ives 5-7, 1-6, 6-1, 9-11)) [2] and two finals at the Championship of Ireland (1891, 1892) . In 1891, he won the tournament in Nottingham (four-set victory over Thomas Chaytor). [2]

For five years ( 1891 - 1896 ) he played for the Irish national team at rugby-15 competitions. Frank Stocker is the only rugby 15 player to win the Wimbledon tournament. [one]
