Biryöen ( indon. Bireuen ) is a district in the province of Aceh . The administrative center is the city of Biryoen .

History
The district was allocated in 2000 from North Aceh County. Until May 2003, martial law was operating on its territory due to the actions of the Free Aceh movement. In 2004, the county fell victim to an Indian Ocean earthquake .

According to the 2008 census, 372,799 people lived in the district.
