Marco Pinotti signed his first professional contract in 1999 with the Italian team Lampre-Daikin . In the first year of professional performances, he took part in the Tour de France , which he finished in the final 113th place, behind Lance Armstrong by two hours and forty minutes. In the fall, Marco won his first professional victory - together with the Latvian Ravis Belohvostiksom he won the pair race for the European Grand Prix. A year later, Pinotti and Belohvostiks became the second at this race, and the main success of the Italian was the victory at one of the stages of the Tour of Poland , which he obtained with a long solo separation.

In 2001, Pinotti almost won the stage at the Tour de France , but at the 15th stage he finished only second, losing to the Belgian Rick Verbrugge . This Tour Pinotti finished 52nd, and finished only 126th at his debut Vuelta . At the end of the season, he took part in the World Cup and became the 26th in the individual race. But a month later, Pinotti for the first time won the tri-color T-shirt of the champion of Italy in the race with a separate start, ahead of Marzio Brusegin . A similar result allowed him to qualify for the World Cup , where he took 17th place in the “cutting”. The next season was not so successful: 60th place in the Giro and defeat in the Italian championship, where Pinotti lost to Brusegin in just 15 seconds

2007, the Italian began as part of the German team T-Mobile Team , for which he played for five years. At the Giro 2007 Pinotti did not win the stages, but for four days he was the leader of the overall standings and the owner of the pink jersey of the leader, and eventually became the 18th. And after the Giro, he won the Italian championship for the second time in his career, in which he will dominate for four years.

In 2008, Pinotti won his debut stage at the Giro , becoming the first at the last stage in Milan , defended the title of champion of Italy, and also won the first multi-day race in his career - Tour of Ireland . In September, at the home world championships in Varez, he showed the 13th time trial result. In 2009, the Italian won the stages of the Tour of the Basque Country and the Tour of Romandia , and also made a decisive contribution to the victory of his team Team Columbia-High Road in the first stage of the Giro d'Italia , which allowed him to become the leader of the overall standings to his teammate Mark Cavendish . At the world championship in Swiss Mendrisio in his favorite cut Pinotti stopped a step away from the medal, showing the fourth time.

After the existence of Team HTC-High Road, the Italian moved to the BMC Racing Team . The main goal of the season for Pinotti was a successful performance at the Giro , but at crucial moments he was not so strong as to fight for high places in the general classification. The final 41st place was brightened up by the victory at the last stage, which, like four years later, took place in Milan. Despite the status of the main favorite, Pinotti lost the Italian championship, becoming only the third. This did not stop him from joining the national team for the Olympics, where he was again close to the medal in the butchering , but became only the fifth.
