Monument to A.V. Koltsov (Voronezh, Koltsovsky Boulevard)

The monument to A.V. Koltsov was inaugurated in October 1976 on an elevation that was created on the square due to the demolition of old houses. The authors of the monument were sculptors P. I. Bondarenko and I. A. Savichev.

The height of the monument is 10-11 m ^{[1] [2]} . The style of the monument is typical of Soviet monumental sculpture: the figure of the poet is made of massive blocks of granite and worked out only partially. The figure itself seemed to hang over the hill. Not all citizens liked the monument; in 1997 it was moved to the depth of the square closer to the entrance to the drama theater (now the Voronezh Concert Hall ) and further from Pokrovsky Cathedral , and the hill of the monument was torn down.

The monument consists of 5 parts, weighing 6-8 tons, which are held under its own weight ^[1] . The base weight is about 70 tons ^[1] , the total mass of the monument is about 85 tons ^[2] .

There is an urban legend that Dzerzhinsky, Stalin or the Latvian shooter were originally sculpted, but the statue was unclaimed ^[1] . When the order for the Koltsov monument arrived, the sculptor Bondarenko replaced the head of the Soviet politician with the head of the national poet ^[1] . In support of this version says the greatcoat , which the poet never wore.

The monument was dismantled on June 17, 2017 during the reconstruction of Sovetskaya Square and transferred to the museum-diorama ^[1] . It is supposed to reduce the pedestal and erect a monument on Koltsovsky Boulevard on Koltsovsky Street ^[3] . On August 24, 2018, the monument was erected at a new location ^[4] .
