George IX (king of Imereti)

In the spring of 1741, the Akhaltsikhe Pasha Isak Pasha organized a military campaign against the Imereti Tsar Alexander V. Powerful Imeretian nobles passed to the side of the Turks: the Mingrelian prince Otia Dadiani , the Rachin eristav Grigol and the prince Zurab Abashidze with their squads. Tsar Alexander of Imereti, having lost the support of the nobility, fled to Kartli with his family and a few supporters. Ottoman Turks entered Kutaisi , the capital of Imereti , where they placed George IX, the younger brother of Alexander , on the royal throne. In Kartli, the Imereti king Alexander was captured by the Persians, but on the orders of Nadir Shah he was released and taken to Akhaltsikhe.

In the fall of 1742, the Akhaltsikhe Pasha organized a new campaign against Imereti to elevate the former Tsar Alexander V to the throne. Megrelian Prince Otia Dadiani, Rachin eristav Grigol and Zurab Abashidze were forced to recognize Alexander as king of Imereti . George IX left Imereti for Megrelia, finding refuge at the court of Prince Otia Dadiani . Alexander ordered the execution of his stepmother Tamara (mother of George) and killed many of his stepbrother's supporters.

George IX had a son, George ( 1756 - 1795 ), who, under the name of David II, held the royal throne of Imereti in 1784 - 1789 , 1790 - 1792 .
