Biography

How the athlete first showed himself in 1976, when speaking for the college of Mississippi became the champion of the National University Sports Association (NCAA) in long jump [1] .

Then followed the second place in the qualifying competitions 1976 to the US Olympic team, during which Mirix was ahead of the 1972 Olympic champion Randy Williams . However, at the Olympic Games in 1976 in Montreal, during a warm-up before the final competitions, he injured his leg and did not play in the final.

In 1979, he again became the champion of the NCAA, this time in the halls and in the stadium [1] , as well as the US champion (8.28 m) and the winner of the World Cup (8.52 m). In 1980-1989, he repeatedly became the champion of the United States.

In 1980, Myriks won the qualifiers for the US Olympic team ahead of the young Carl Lewis, however, because of the boycott of the Olympic Games organized by the US administration, American athletes did not participate in the games.

At the 1984 Olympic qualifiers, Myriks was second after Karl Lewis [2] and was fourth at the Olympics.

At the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, Myriks won a bronze medal, skipping ahead of Carl Lewis and Mike Powell.

Larry Meyriks personal record (8.74 m) is set at the 1988 Olympic qualifiers. On September 1, 2012, Mirix took 5th place in the list of the best long jumpers in the entire history of athletics [3] .

At his fifth Olympic qualifying competition in 1992, the 36-year-old Myriks took seventh place [2] .

At the 1991 World Cup, when a new world record was born in a duel between Mike Powell and Carl Lewis, Myriks was third with a score of 8.42 meters.

Mayriks takes the second place in the list of athletes who made the greatest number of jumps for 8.50 m. He showed such results in 17 competitions. The first place on this list is Carl Lewis (39 competitions). In total, on September 1, 2012, 20 athletes jumped 8.50 m and further [3] [2] . Myriks last jumped 8.50 m in 1991 at the age of 35. Together with Carl Lewis, he is a co-author of a world record for athletes over 35 years old. [4] .

Meyrix also participated in the 200-meter race, taking second place in the US Championship in 1983 with a score of 20.03, skipping ahead of Carl Lewis.

Meyrix is ​​a graduate of Mississippi College . His trainer was Joe Walker. In May 1990, before the US Championship, Myriks was disqualified for doping. After the second positive test, the disqualification was extended for life. Further disqualification was canceled, after which Miriks acted for one season.
