History
For the first time, the avenue was mentioned on the city map in 1877 as Alexandrovsky. The name comes from the name of Prince Alexander Mikhailovich Beloselsky-Belozersky , who became the owner of Krestovsky Island at the beginning of the 19th century .
The Beloselsky-Belozersky family owned this island for more than a hundred years, and this was reflected in the toponymy of the island. The name of Alexandrovsky Avenue appeared much earlier than other names on the island: Konstantinovsky Avenue , Eleninsky , Olgina and Esperova Streets .
On April 16, 1887, the avenue became Arkhangelsk Street, according to a decree signed by Alexander III . By this decree, several more streets of the Petersburg side were assigned the names of the cities of the Arkhangelsk province. On Krestovsky Island, they also renamed Nadezhdinskaya Street (now Deputatskaya) into Kholmogorskaya, and another Aleksandrovskaya into Kemskaya.
In 1916, the street again became Alexandrovsky Prospekt for almost 25 years, as this name more prevailed in everyday life.
Initially, the avenue reached the Chukhonka River. In 1909, it was reduced to the now defunct Katavskaya street.
In 1925, the Dynamo Stadium was built . At the same time, the avenue was reduced to Andreevskaya Street (now Sportivnaya), and Katavskaya Street and several other streets of Krestovsky Island disappeared.
On December 22, 1939, the avenue became known as Dynamo Avenue under the name of the Dynamo Sports Society [2] .
