Vanadium isotopes are varieties of the chemical element of vanadium with different numbers of neutrons in the nucleus . Vanadium isotopes with mass numbers from 40 to 65 (the number of protons 23, neutrons from 17 to 42) and 5 nuclear isomers are known .
Natural vanadium is a mixture of two isotopes. One stable:
- 51 V ( isotopic abundance 99.75%)
And one unstable, but with a huge half-life , much more than the age of the universe :
- 50 V (isotopic prevalence 0.25%), half-life 1.5⋅10 17 years.
Among artificial isotopes, the longest-lived 49 V (half-life 329 days). The half-life of the rest does not exceed several days.
