Range

Range : southern seas of Antarctica and Subantarctic . It is found to the north to Kerguelen , New Zealand , Tierra del Fuego , the Falklands and Tristan da Cugna , less often to the south of Brazil and Australia . In South America , the range intersects with the habitat of the South American tern , a seasonally polar tern that migrates annually from the Arctic to the Antarctic.

The species is widespread, the protection status assigned to it is “ causing the least concern ” [3] . The total number of individuals is estimated at 140 thousand.

The Antarctic tern is a small bird, body length 31–38 cm. The beak is dark red or black, the plumage in adults is white, in chicks it is gray, only black on its head .

The nesting form is from mid- November to early December . Chicks hatch from December to February . The main enemies, especially for eggs and chicks, are skuas .
