Abu Firas [1] ( Arabic. أبو فراس ; also known as Abu Firas al-Hamdani Arab. أبو فراس الحمداني ; full name is Abu Firas ibn al-Haris ibn Saeed ibn Hamdan al-Hamdani ; 9329 poet and statesman of the X century.

Biography
Born in 932 in Mosul . Belonged to the Shiite aristocratic family of Hamdanids , who ruled the emirate of Aleppo in the territory of modern Syria and Northern Iraq [2] . He served with his cousin - Emir Sayf al-Daul - Governor of the province of Mumbridge and was a court poet. He took an active part in the wars against Byzantium . In 959 he was captured and was released after 3 years. Soon he was captured for the second time and spent almost four years in Constantinople [2] . It was purchased in 966 and appointed governor of Homs . After the death in 967 of Saif ad-Daul, his 16-year-old son Said became the emir. Abu Firas rebelled and in April 968 died in a battle with an army led by Hadjib Karguyah ( Arabic: قرغويه ) south-east of the city of Homs [2] .
Creativity
The lyrics of Abu Firas were dominated by chivalrous traits - militancy and worship before a lover. For the first time in Arabic poetry, he appears the motive of the Alba [3] . Being in Byzantine captivity in Constantinople , he created his most famous work - a collection of poems, called " Ar-Rumiyat " ( Arabic. الروميات, Rûmiyyât ). In his elegiac messages from captivity, he expressed great love for his mother, home and homeland [3] .
Editions of
- A manuscript created in Morocco dating from 1628 is known. Contains the collected works ( sofa ) of Abu Firas. In 2011, the manuscript was put up for auction by the Christies auction house [4] .
- The first printed edition of the works of Abu Firas was published in Beirut in 1873 .
