Versions

1876

Original version. Bruckner worked on it from February 1875 to May 1876. It is not amenable to restoration, since further processing was carried out according to a single white manuscript. Some information about this version is contained in the notes to the publication of R. Haas.

1878

Result of processing completed in November. Editions edited by R. Haas (1935) and L. Novak (1951) are almost identical.

1896

The premier version, also laid the foundation for the first edition, ed. F. Schalke. Schalk's share in the processing has not been precisely established, but it is generally accepted that the discrepancies with respect to the 1878 version were not approved by Bruckner and therefore not authentic. Schalk tried to give Bruckner's music a more Wagnerian character, mainly due to reordering, for example, a triangle , plates and a brass band behind the scenes were introduced in the Finale code. Numerous bills were made in the symphony, mainly in the Final.
