Description

Appearance

This is a medium-sized spider, the body length of females is 1.2-1.5 cm. The abdomen is silver-white with six deep notches, segments, the color of which varies from dark to orange.

Web

The fishing net is wheel-shaped, its center is densely braided with cobwebs.

Distribution and habitat

On the territory of the former USSR, lives in its European part, in the Crimea, the Caucasus , Central Asia and Kazakhstan . It inhabits mainly deserts, semi-deserts, steppes.

It also lives in North Africa (in Algeria).

Poison

Argiope venom paralyzes both invertebrates and vertebrates. For humans and large animals, poison is not dangerous.
