Quae in patriarchatu (from Latin - “What's in the Patriarchate”) is the encyclical of Pope Pius IX , published on November 16, 1876 and intended for the Patriarch of the Chaldean Catholic Church, Joseph VI Audo . In this encyclical, Pope Pius IX sets out the difficult situation in the Chaldean Catholic Church after the illegal ordination of four bishops by Joseph VI. Pope Pius IX announces the suspension of the patriarch’s jurisdiction over all dioceses of the Chaldean Catholic Church and threatens to excommunicate the patriarch if he does not withdraw the ordained bishops within a month after receiving the encyclical and renounces his claims to the Malabar church .
