Service History

Laid down and built in 1985 at the Polish shipyard Severnaya Verf in Gdansk . From 1985 to 1996, he was a member of the Black Sea Fleet of the USSR and Ukraine , carried out tasks for practicing assault landing and served in the Mediterranean Sea .

In late 1993 - early 1994, he participated along with other ships of the former Black Sea Fleet of the USSR to evacuate refugees from the zone of the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict . According to the ship's physician, Mikhail Korpan, during the evacuation, the ship managed to take out more than 4 thousand people, most of whom suffered from gunshot wounds , and many refugees were in critical condition.

During the evacuation mission "Konstantin Olshansky" and another ship BDK-69 ( project 1171 ) were attacked by several armed boats of the Navy of Abkhazia . The Olshansky commander decided to go on a side course and prepare guns for firing, however, the neighboring ship MDK-123 of project 1232.2 Zubr came to the rescue and sank one of the boats with fire from the AK-630M installation, having managed to discard the enemy’s forces.

March 22, 2011 the ship arrived in Libya , where a civil war broke out , to evacuate the citizens of Ukraine. On board were taken 193 people, of which 85 citizens of Ukraine and 108 citizens of 14 other countries of the world. On April 4, the ship arrived in Malta , where 79 people were disembarked. On April 11, the ship arrived in Sevastopol , bringing there citizens of Ukraine and the CIS countries [2] [3] [4] .

During the Crimean conflict , on the night of March 6, 2014, it was blocked along with another 6 warships of the Ukrainian Navy in Donuzlav Bay , as a result of the flooding of several decommissioned ships by the sailors of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Navy, including the large Ochakov anti-submarine ship.
