Mark Ravenhill is considered the largest English playwright of our time [2] , the leader of the British " theater of cruelty ." The plays “Shopping & Fucking” and “Several Polaroid Shots” became world hits and turned, in essence, into manifestos of the acute social drama of the 1990s [2] .

Quotes
- “Our current theater system is quite easily recognizable from the point of view of the Soviet attitude to production. This is not to say that we have enough demand for new drama, as well as the product itself. However, there is a machine specially created, and for its work it is necessary to open more than one hundred new playwrights a year. Thus, people have to be recruited, convinced that they want to write for the theater, and then skipped through a very long process - to engage with them to help them acquire some kind of dramatic skills. In the end, they will probably produce something remotely resembling a play, and it is possible that it will appear on the scene. In a word, all this is somewhat reminiscent of those experiments in agriculture that were carried out in the Soviet Union in the 30s, 40s, 50s ” [3] - Mark Ravenhill, 2010 .
