Description
The district, the youngest in Alabama [1] , is located in the southeastern part of the state, borders Georgia on the east (along the Chattahuchi River ) [1] , on the south - on Florida , on the west and north - on other districts of Alabama. Named after George S. Houston , 24th Governor of Alabama [1] . The capital and largest city is Dothan (the city is located simultaneously in three neighboring districts). Open water spaces occupy 3 km², which is 0.2% of the total area of the district in 1502 km².
In the okrug, a significant area is allocated for the cultivation of peanuts , cotton, and corn [1] .
History
The district was formed on February 9, 1903 by separating parts of three neighboring districts [1] .
