| Former names | Radichev Square |
The former name of the square is Radicheva ( Horv. Radićev trg ).
Within the square is the church of St. Mark , one of the oldest buildings in the city, which gave the name of the square. In addition, the square is the concentration of the highest state institutions of the Republic of Croatia - here are the Sabor building, the house of the Government of Croatia , the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Croatia . Therefore, the expression “Markov trg” (Markov trg) is often, in particular in journalism, used in Croatia in an indirect sense - as a euphemism for the key organs of Croatian politics.
The last reconstruction of the square took place in 2006 , then the square was paved with granite pavers [1] .
Since August 2005, the Government has banned public gatherings on St. Mark [2] .
