Biography
Born in the village of Banishchi, Lgovsky district, Kursk province (now Lgovsky district, Kursk region) in a peasant family. Russian
World War II
After graduating from high school, he entered the forestry technical school, but did not complete his studies because of the outbreak of war. He was called up by the Rylsky district military enlistment office of the Kursk region in the Red Army and sent to the Tambov Cavalry Military School named after the First Horse Army, and after undergoing training - into the army (since August 1942 ). He began with the command of the platoon, then the saber squadron. Toward the end of the war, he became an intelligence officer of the 7th Guards Peremyshlsky Cavalry Regiment of the 2nd Guards Crimean Cavalry Division of the 1st Ukrainian Front . At the front he became a candidate member of the CPSU (b) .
He was wounded in August 1944 .
Feat
In February 1945, a squadron under the command of P.I. Sidorov broke into the Upper Silesian city of Ehrenforst and captured the crossing over the Oder . Repulsing the fierce attacks of German troops, the squadron held it for eight days. When reinforcements arrived, out of 170 fighters, only 11 remained. [1] It was then that P.I. Sidorov was introduced to the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
On April 25, 1945, regimental reconnaissance commander P.I. Sidorov, by covert surveillance, revealed the location of German firing points on the opposite bank of the Elbe River , determined the most convenient approaches and crossed the regiment across the river.
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of June 27, 1945, the senior lieutenant Sidorov Pavel Ivanovich was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [2] .
Post-war years
After the Victory P.I. Sidorov remained in the service in the Soviet Army. In 1954, he graduated from the Military Academy. M.V. Frunze , served as the district military commissioner in the Turginovsky and Kashinsky areas .
Having left in reserve in the rank of colonel in 1969, he lived in Kalinin , where he actively participated in public life, military-patriotic work with youth. For many years of social activity and a significant contribution to the development of the city of Tver, P. I. Sidorov was awarded the title “Honorary Citizen of the City of Tver” on December 18, 2009 [3] . A memorial plaque was erected in his honor on the building of the Ivaninsky secondary school in the Rylsky district, in which P. I. Sidorov studied.
He was the last of the Heroes of the Soviet Union who lived in the Tver region [5] . He died in Tver on August 28, 2012 at the 91st year of life shortly after a stroke [6] . He was buried in a municipal cemetery in the village of Dmitrovo-Cherkassy, Kalinin district (5 kilometers from Tver) near his wife [7] .
