Geographical position
The city is located in the northwestern part of the governorate, in the right-bank part of the Tigris Valley, at an altitude of 143 meters above sea level [1] .
Shergat is located approximately 100 kilometers north-northwest (NNW) from Tikrit , the provincial capital, and 255 kilometers north-northwest of Baghdad , the country's capital.

In 2012, the population of the city is 54,238 people [2] [3] .
Attractions
To the south of the city are the ruins of Ashur , one of the most significant cities of ancient Assyria .
