Story
The action begins in the Dagestan aul in the summer, shortly after the final exams. Murad, having just graduated from school, has long been in love with a classmate named Maysarat. She also likes him, but her parents have long been marrying her for the son of Usman - their fellow villager who had long left the village and lived in the city. Since the girl graduated from school, Usman suggests already thinking about the wedding.
Murad grows up without a father who died long ago, but he talks a lot with his grandfather. He tells how, in due time, according to the mountain custom, he stole a bride . Another grandfather tells Murad a legend about how a dzhigit behind a blue mountain found an aul and fell in love with a girl living there, tied up for another. However, when he stole it, the bridegroom clan entered the war with the dzhigit clan, and a lot of blood was shed.
One day Murad invites Maysarat to leave together. He is waiting for her at the bus stop, but her relatives are catching her and returning her home. Murad is asked to temporarily leave the village. He walks through the mountains, sleeps at the shepherds , and in the morning a helicopter takes him to Makhachkala (on the way the helicopter flies over the Chirkei hydroelectric station ). There Murad stops at his mother’s relatives. The daughter of the owners of Amin is trying to introduce him to her friend Sonya. Soon Murad gets a job on a construction site where Amina’s friend Sultan works.
After a weekend break by the sea, Murad and his company return to the city. Sonya asks for her. Amina sees a telegram for Murad at home and runs after him. Grandfather died, and Murad returns to the village. He does not want to go back to the city after the funeral. He takes his grandfather’s gun and goes to an abandoned village. Maysarat comes after him and sits down next to the wall of the house.
