Mahek ( Spanish: Magec ) - the god of the sun in the mythology of the Guanches , the natives of the island of Tenerife as part of the Canary Islands .
According to legend, the evil demon Guyot once imprisoned Mahek inside the volcano Teide (Echeide) and began to attack civilians under cover of darkness. Frightened residents of Tenerife turned to the sky god Achaman for help. Achaman freed Mahek and put Guayot in his place, blocking the exit from the volcano with a βcorkβ, which even now differs noticeably in color from the rest of the stone.
