Kay Bailey Hutchison ( born Kathryn Ann Bailey ; born July 22, 1943 , Galveston , Texas , USA ) is an American politician, US Permanent Representative to NATO since August 28, 2017. US Senator from Texas in 1993-2013, member of the Republican Party .

Biography
Kay Bailey Hutchison was born in Galveston , Texas , July 22, 1943. [1] She grew up and graduated from school in next to Galveston, and then studied at the University of Texas at Austin , graduating in 1967. [1]
From 1972 to 1976, she was a member of the Texas House of Representatives . From 1976 to 1978, she was vice chairman of the National Council for Transport Safety [1] .
In 1982, she participated in the election for a seat in the US House of Representatives from the 3rd District of Texas (located in Dallas ), but lost to Steve Bartlett ( Steve Bartlett ) in the primary election.
From 1990 to 1993, she was treasurer of the State of Texas ( English Texas State Treasurer ) [1] .
In 1993, the United States Senator from Texas was vacated as a result of the fact that previous Senator Lloyd Bentsen accepted the offer to take the post of Secretary of the Treasury of the United States . Democrat Robert Krueger was temporarily appointed to Bentsen's place, but elections were required to confirm who would be the senator for the time remaining until the end of Bentsen's term.
These early elections ( United States Senate special election in Texas ) were held on June 6, 1993, and the candidates were Robert Kruger (from the Democrats) and Kay Bailey Hutchison (from the Republicans). Hutchison won with 67.34% of the vote. [2] Thus, she became the first woman to represent Texas in the US Senate , and on June 14, 1993, she began her work as a US Senator from Texas [3] .
Hutchison was re-elected to this post in 1994, 2000 and 2006 [1] . She did not participate in the 2012 elections, and Ted Cruz [4] , also a representative of the Republican Party, who officially took office as a senator on January 3, 2013, was elected in her place.
Since February 2013, Kay Bailey Hutchison has been a senior lawyer at Law Firm in Dallas [5] .
Family
Kay Bailey Hutchison married a second time in 1982, to Ray Hutchison, a Dallas prosecutor and politician. (Her first marriage was short-lived, from 1967 to 1969.) [6]
Kay Bailey and Ray Hutchison have two adopted children (since 2001) - Houston Taylor (son) and Katherine Bailey (daughter). In addition, Ray Hutchison has two daughters from a previous marriage, Brenda and Julia [7] .
