Biography
Born in 1889 in the village of Okhomira, Kutaisi province (now Tkibulsky municipality of the region of Imereti, Georgia) in a family of a psalm-reader.
In 1904 he graduated from a full course of study at the Kutaisi Theological College. He was a friend of the famous linguist Akaki Shanidze .
In 1912, he was identified as the psalmist of the Ascension Church in Tsutsvati (now in the Tkibul municipality of Imereti).
In 1916, he was ordained deacon and appointed deacon of the Kutaisi Cathedral.
In 1918, he was ordained a priest in the Coca-Okhomir Church (near Tkibuli ) in the Kutaisi province.
In 1924 he was transferred to the post of priest of the Spassky Church in Chognari (now - in the region of Imereti ).
Since 1925, at the same time was the dean of the Kutaisi and Okribsky districts.
In 1929 he was appointed rector of the Kutaisi Mtsvanskavilsky church.
In 1940, the church was closed by the authorities, Fr. Nahum lost both the place of rector and the position of dean.
In 1942, his eldest son, 26-year-old graduate student of the philological faculty of the University of Tbilisi , was shot.
In 1943, he was appointed klyuchar of the Tbilisi Zion Patriarchal Cathedral .
In 1943, he participated in important negotiations with the representative of the Patriarch of All Russia, Archbishop Anthony , as a result of which the Russian Orthodox Church finally recognized the autocephaly of the Georgian Church.
In February 1944, he was summoned to the military commissariat of the Ordzhonikidze district of Tbilisi, recognized as temporarily obliged to stock up, and enrolled in ordinary military academies. At the request of the Catholicos-Patriarch Kallistrath, in March of the same year he was released from military service [1] .
In 1947, he again became rector of the Kutaisi Mtsvanskavilsky church. With his participation, the first church calendar of the Georgian Orthodox Church was released.
On July 7, 1957 he was ordained bishop and occupied the Kutaisi-Gaenat department.
On August 26, 1963, he participated in the episcopal consecration of Elijah (Gudushauri-Shiolashvili) , the future Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia [2] .
In 1967 he was elevated to the rank of Metropolitan .
As a representative of the Georgian Church, he participated in the intronization ceremony of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy I , in the elections of the Catholicos of All Armenians Vazgen I in Etchmiadzin , the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia in Gelati .
Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Melkidedek III called Naum his successor, but he considered himself unworthy of this honorary title and refused in favor of Ephraim II .
Died March 3, 1969 . He was buried in the Kutaisi Cathedral.
