History
Nynashamn emerged as a summer cottage at the crossroads of sea routes. In 1901, it was connected with Stockholm by a railway, and by 1911 its population had grown to 1700 inhabitants. In 1928, an oil refinery began work here. Nynashamn grew rapidly and by 1946, when it received the status of a city, 6,800 people already lived in it, two thirds of which were employed in the oil refining industry.
