"Desperado" ( Russian Cutthroat ) is a song by the American rock band Eagles , released on their 1973 album Desperado . The song was written by drummer Don Henley and guitarist Glenn Fry and is a piano ballad in which the performer asks the offender to give up life outside the law and try to return to normal life, no matter how hard it is. Henley performed the vocalist on the song, and Fry played the piano .

Despite the fact that the song did not come out as a single, it became one of the most famous Eagles songs. William Ralmann with Allmusic called the song one of the best among the group, saying that it shows the strength of the authorial duet of Henley and Fry, but also called it a "painfully slow ballad." The media reported that “Desperado” was the favorite song of the American soldier Pat Tillman and the song was performed during a memorial service in his honor in 2004 . [2]

- Linda Ronstadt included a cover version of the song in her 1973 album Don't Cry Now , and also often performed the song in collaboration with Nelson Riddle Orchestra. [3]
- The Carpenters released their version of the song on their 1975 album Horizon .
- Country singer Kenny Rogers released a cover version of the song on his 1977 album Daytime Friends .
- Tori Amos performed the song several times at her concerts.
- Country singer Clint Black sang “Desperado” for the 1993 Eagles Common Thread: The Songs of the Eagles tribute album . In the same year, his version took 54th place on the Hot Country Songs chart .
- Johnny Cash recorded a cover version of the song for his 2002 album American Recording IV: The Man Comes Around . Don Henley performed as a guest vocalist.
- The song, performed by Japanese singer Kokia, was featured in a 2004 film , The Hotel Venus , starred by SMAP band member Tsuyoshi Kusanagi.
- In August 2007 , Irish band Celtic Thunder sang a song at a concert in Dublin , a recording of this concert was released under the name The Show . [four]

- In the episode "The Checks" of the eighth season of the sitcom Seinfeld . In it, the song mysteriously had a strong hypnotic effect on the boyfriend Elaine Bens Brett, who threw everything and listened to the song, each time as if in a trance, if she played. Elaine tried to remove this effect with another song (“ Witchy Woman ” from the first Eagles album ).
- In the episode "Helen's Story" of the British series Accused , Helen's husband sings a cappella chorus.
