He served as Minister of Justice and Minister for Religious Affairs. He also became head of the Supreme Court (as successor to Miguel Dominguez) during the presidency of Vicente Guerrero . In 1829, Guerrero temporarily left the presidency of Jose Maria Bocanegre to fight the uprising at Jalapa , but Bocanegra was overthrown within a week. The government council temporarily served as president. As president of the Supreme Court, Veles was appointed head of this triumvirate, which also included General Luis de Quintanar and historian Lucas Alaman , leaders of the rebellion against Bocanegra. Quintanar was a strong supporter of Anastasio Bustamante , the leader of the so-called Jalapa plan against Guerrero and his former vice president.
Veles was president from December 23 to December 31, 1829, after which Bustamante became president.
After Veles retired to private life and took up legal activities. He again presided over the Supreme Court in 1844 and in January - April 1846. At the age of 61, for natural reasons, Veles died in the capital of the Republic, Mexico City, on August 5, 1848, as a justice of the peace of the Supreme Court [1] .
