Biography
Born in Kaunas. In 1934 - 1941 she studied at the Shaum Aleichem Kaunas Gymnasium. During the Second World War in the Kaunas ghetto, it lost its parents. In 1947 she graduated from Vilnius Salome Neris High School. In 1953 she graduated from Moscow State University, where she studied German language and literature. In 1963, at Leningrad State University, she defended her thesis for the degree of candidate of philological sciences.
In 1953 - 1997, she taught at the Vilnius Pedagogical Institute (transformed in 1992 into the Vilnius Pedagogical University ) courses in Western European literature, German literature, and theater history of the 20th century. Since 1965, assistant professor; In 1999, she was awarded the title of Honorary Professor of Vilnius Pedagogical University.
From 1963 - 1964, known as a theater critic.
Scientific activity
She has published over 200 articles in print in Lithuania and other countries. Compiled by several books; co-author of school books.
Community Activities
In 1990, together with Professor Cheslovas Kudaba, she co-founded the Atviros Lietuvos Fondas Open Lithuania Foundation . Until 1993, she was vice-chairman of the board of the Open Lithuania Fund, in 1993 - 2000 she was chairman of the board. Member of the board of the Open Society Institute (Budapest) and other international non-governmental organizations, member of the curatorium of the Cultural Center Thomas Mann in Nida, member of the Lithuanian National Committee of UNESCO, Art Council of the Ministry of Culture of Lithuania.
