History

Queen Suyumbike

The construction of Suyumbike Avenue was carried out simultaneously with the construction of residential areas of the New City - in the 1970s. Until 1992, this avenue was called “Leninsky,” but at the request of the city commission on toponymy, architecture, and art, it was renamed Syuyumbike Avenue - in honor of the semi-legendary woman in the history of the Bulgars and their descendants, Tatars, Tsarina Syuyumbike (1516–1566) .) - rulers of the Kazan Khanate in 1549-1551 [3] .

Location and amenities

Suyumbike Avenue is one of the central avenues in the new, north-eastern part of the city of Naberezhnye Chelny. The avenue originates from the intersection with Friendship of Nations Avenue and ends with the intersection with Yashlek Avenue . Along the avenue are located 11, 41, 16, 14, 19, 43, 45, 21, 20, 47, 23, 24, 49, 25, 51 residential complexes. Suyumbike Avenue is one of the city’s well-maintained avenues on which to build the new Chelny-City business center of Naberezhnye Chelny [3] . Today it is a magnificent wide street with two-way traffic and high-rise buildings. The length of the avenue is about 5.6 km. The width of the carriageway is three lanes in each direction. Throughout the avenue there are two underground pedestrian crossings, as well as six traffic lights . The traffic intensity on the avenue is 1450 cars / hour, throughput - 3850 cars / hour [1] . Traffic congestion is not typical for this avenue. Even at rush hour, the situation here is much better than on other central highways. In 2015, overhaul of Syuyumbike Avenue was made for a total amount of 660,000,000 rubles. 222,000 m² of asphalt concrete pavement were laid, 3 km of side stone was replaced, 134 storm water wells were repaired, 3 km of sidewalks were constructed, 28 stop pavilions of a new type and 1026 new traffic signs were installed [4] .

Architecture and significant objects

18-story tower of the Syuyumbike residential complex

On Suyumbike Avenue, relatively new buildings and structures are located, among which there are both houses from the late 1970s and early 1980s, as well as modern apartment buildings [3] . Here is one of the tallest buildings in the city - a 25-story residential building on 19/01, as well as 24- and 18-story towers of the Syuyumbike residential complex. The house, nicknamed by the people as a “book house”, is distinguished by its unusual structure. The prospectus was adorned with the modern buildings of Devon Credit Bank, shopping centers Orange and Bahetle, which were built over the past ten years. The infrastructure of the avenue can be called almost perfect: there are various social facilities, administrative and cultural institutions. For example, the city administration, the ice palace , Sberbank, shopping centers of various price levels [3] .

Since 2009, on the Syuyumbike Avenue, next to the city administration building, the construction of the largest Jamig Cathedral Mosque in Tatarstan has been underway, including a 4-story mosque building with four minarets, an Islamic educational institution, a hotel, a cafe, and retail outlets [5] .

Public Transport

Public transport on Suyumbike Avenue is represented by buses , minibuses and trams [6] .

In 2006, a new 2-kilometer section of tram tracks was introduced on Suyumbike Avenue - from the intersection with Vakhitov Avenue to the intersection of Belyaev Avenue [7] . In 2014, a tram line from the 16th complex to the Pedagogical Institute was put into operation, running to the end of Syuyumbike Avenue and then through Mira Avenue and Naberezhnye Chelny Avenue to Nizametdinov Street . This line connected the New Town with the historical part of Chelny via the shortest route [8] .

Interesting Facts

Every year on May 9, starting in 2009, at the Pushkinskaya stop located on Syuyumbike Avenue, the Magnetic Tram flash mob [9] [10] is held .
