Biography
Evgeny Volkov was born on February 12, 1924 in Tula in a working class family [1] .
He graduated from nine classes of the school. In 1941 he was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In 1943, Volkov graduated from a tank school and was sent to the front of the Great Patriotic War. He took part in the battles on the Stepnoy , 2nd Ukrainian and 1st Belorussian fronts. By October 1943, Lieutenant Yevgeny Volkov commanded a platoon of the 586th tank battalion of the 219th tank brigade of the 1st mechanized corps of the 37th Army of the Steppe Front. He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper [1] .
On the night of October 1 to October 2, 1943, the 586th battalion under the command of senior lieutenant Dmitry Tyurkin , in which Volkov also fought, crossed the Dnieper south of Kremenchug in the vicinity of the village of Mishurin Rog of the Verkhnedneprovsky region of the Dnepropetrovsk region of the Ukrainian SSR , which was previously a bridgehead was captured by units of the 57th Rifle Corps. Tankers, in cooperation with the infantry, held the bridgehead and pushed the enemy south. Having overcome wire fences and anti-tank ditches, Soviet troops liberated the settlements of Mishurin Rog, Tarasovka , Borodaevka , Suslovka , Rogovka and several others. In those battles, Volkov personally knocked out 2 tanks . He was the first with his platoon to break through to a height south of Tarasovka, destroying 3 artillery pieces and 7 machine guns [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of December 20, 1943, for "exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the battle against the German invaders and shown courage and heroism", Lieutenant Evgeny Volkov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal " Under the number 2740 [1] .
Later he participated in the battles for Kirovograd , the liberation of the Mogilev , Minsk and Brest regions of the Byelorussian SSR , the forcing of the Western Bug , the liberation of Poland , the Warsaw-Poznan operation , the capture of Kutno , the forcing of the Oder , the East Pomeranian operation , the storming of Berlin . After the war, Volkov received a vacation and went to Tula [1] .
June 3, 1945 Volkov was killed by the platoon commander of the special airfield No. 1, Junior Lieutenant Besenny. That day Volkov was walking with his friends in the garden of the Tula arms factory . There was also the Priceless, along with his acquaintance, the worker of the plant No. 539 Trushkin. While in a state of intoxication, the Priceless went up to the acquaintance of Volkov Bykova, pushed and scolded her with obscene words. Volkov offered Priceless to apologize, but he refused, and then Volkov hit him. Threatening to deal with Volkov, the Priceless left, and then, waiting for him as he went home, together with Trushkin caught up with him, hit him on the head with a pistol grip and killed him with three shots. The killers were soon installed and arrested. The military tribunal sentenced Priceless to capital punishment , and Trushkin to 10 years in prison [1] .
He was buried at the All Saints Cemetery [1] .
Memory
In 1966, a street was named in honor of EF Volkov in the Proletarsky district of the city of Tula (formerly Shlakovaya) [1] .
