History

September 7, 2011 the main team of the Yaroslavl hockey club Lokomotiv, playing in the Continental Hockey League , died in a plane crash . It was decided that Lokomotiv will not participate in the KHL season 2011/2012 , but will return to the country's main league next season. [2] In the 2011/2012 season, Lokomotiv created, on the basis of its youth team Loko and specially invited young hockey players from other clubs, to play in the Higher Hockey League - the second most powerful in the country. The head coach of the new team was appointed Peter Ilyich Vorobyov , who had previously worked with the youth team.

Lokomotiv played its first VHL match on December 12, 2011 against Almetyevsk Neftyanik . Then the wards of P.I. Vorobyov confidently defeated the Almetyevsk club with a score of 5: 1 on their own ice. In total, Lokomotiv spent 22 matches in the VHL Regular Championship 2011/2012 and earned 42 points. As for the playoffs, the Yaroslavl team successfully reached the 1/2 finals of the Western Conference, defeating the St. Petersburg Navy HC in the first stage of the Cup-Bratina with a score of 3: 2 in the series. Then the team from Yaroslavl could not get through and they flew out of the playoffs after losing to the Penza Diesel in a series with a score of 3: 2.

Returning to the KHL, the Yaroslavl club decided to leave the team with the name “Lokomotiv” in the Higher Hockey League.

In the offseason 2012, Lokomotiv VHL played 12 matches, 4 of which were friendly, 4 for the cup of the governor of the Tver region, and 4 more for the Diesel Cup. In friendly games, Yaroslavl achieved 3 victories and 1 defeat; In the Tver Region Governor’s Cup Lokomotiv VHL won all 3 rounds, but lost in the final; and the Diesel Cup, the Yaroslavl club took with him to Yaroslavl, winning all 3 rounds and defeating the Voronezh Buran in the final. [3]

In 2013, the leadership of the Yaroslavl club decided not to expose their team to participate in the championship of the Higher Hockey League (VHL), because the club’s maintenance of three teams at once - in the VHL , the Continental Hockey League and the MHL was deemed unprofitable by the club’s management. Therefore, Lokomotiv-VHL was disbanded.
