Maurice Lucas ( born Maurice Lucas ; February 18, 1951 , Pittsburgh , PA - October 31, 2010 , Portland , Oregon ) is an American professional basketball player . The first two years after graduation, he spent at the clubs of the American Basketball Association Spirit of St. Louis and Kentucky Colonels . After that, he played for the Portland Trail Blazers , New Jersey Nets , New York Knicks , Phoenix Suns , Los Angeles Lakers and Seattle Supersonics at the National Basketball Association . As part of the "Trail Blazers" in the season 1976/1977 became the champion of the NBA. For his contribution to the development of the Portland Trail Blazers team , No. 20 was assigned to him.

American Basketball Association
In 1973, the ABA Carolina Cougars club in the first round of the ABA draft was chosen by Maurice Lucas [1] . In 1974, Lucas was also selected in the NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls club under number 14. Lucas decided to perform in the ABA and became a member of the Spirit of St. Louis club, the successor to the Cowgars [2] . In his debut season in ABA, Lucas averaged 13.2 points per game and made 10 rebounds for which he was included in the second ABA rookie team [3] .
On December 17, 1975, in the middle of the season, he was traded at the Kentucky Colonels for Caldwell Jones [4] . In the 1975/76 season, he averaged 17 points per game and made 11.3 rebounds and was selected to participate in the ABA All-Star Game. He remained in the team until the unification of the ABA and the NBA in 1976 [3] .
