Oodarysh

Oodarysh ( Kyrgyz. Oodarysh - overturning, overturning) is an equestrian game common in Central Asia. One of the traditional sports for nomads, requiring riders to have a solid fit in the saddle, great physical strength and dexterity, combined with skillful horse control.

Game Rules

The game is played on a flat ground in a circle or on a straight track of 40 m². The game lasts 15 minutes. If after the end of the playing time none of the participants won, then after a 3-minute break, 5 minutes of additional playing time are given to determine the winner. Victory by points is awarded for advantages in the battle, for the least number of comments received during the battle.

Each of the participants performing with a bare torso, maneuvering on his horse and using various grabs above the belt, must pull his opponent off the horse. Victory is also counted when the opponent manages to pull and lay on the croup of his horse. Participants (over the age of 19) are divided into weight categories.

Players are prohibited from: striking the opponent and his horse, grabbing the opponent by the head, hair or harness of the horse, twisting the arms of the opponent, throwing a horse’s motive on the opponent.
