Biastes popovi (lat.) - a type of bee cuckoo from the genus Biastes of the family Apidae . Endemic of the Far East ( Amur Region , Jewish Autonomous Region ) [1] .

Description
Body length about 7 mm. Kleptoparasites of bees, presumably of the genus Dufourea , in whose nests lay their eggs. Like other cuckoo bees do not have devices for pollination and collecting pollen (no baskets on the legs, modified hairs on the body, etc.). The head , chest and abdomen are black, the legs are brownish-black. Body slightly pubescent. Abutments jagged. Front wing with 2 radio-medial cells. Antennae short, in males 12-segmented, flagellum (flagellum) - 1.5 mm. Head length 1.7 mm (width - 1.8 mm). The distance between the antenna attachments is 0.44 mm. Clypeus length 0.8 mm (width - 1.2 mm). Parapsal grooves developed. The length of the front wing 4.8 mm (rear - 3.5 mm) [1] [2] [3] .
Etymology
The species was first described in 2004 by Russian hymenopterologists M. Yu. Proshalykin and A. S. Lelei ( Institute of Biology and Soil Science, Far East Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences ) and named after the prominent Soviet bee scientist Vladimir Veniaminovich Popov (1902–1960), corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences [1] .
