Balad Ruz [1] ( Arabic: بلدروز ) is a city in the east of Iraq , located in the territory of Diyal governorate. The administrative center of the eponymous district.

Geographical position

The city is located in the southern part of the governorate, in the central part of the Mesopotamian lowlands , at an altitude of 37 meters above sea ​​level [2] .
Balad Ruz is located approximately 35 kilometers east of Baakuba , the provincial capital, and 60 kilometers northeast of Baghdad , the country's capital.
A motorway runs through the city, connecting the cities of Baakuba and Mandali .

  • April 8, 2004 - an explosion in one of the city streets. As a result, 5 people died, 18 were injured [5] .
  • July 28, 2004 - a land mine explosion; an American soldier died, three were injured [6] .

  • August 7, 2006 - unknown was opened fire on Iraqi military personnel. Six people died, 15 were injured [8] .
  • March 7, 2007 - in one of the city cafes, a suicide bomber detonated. As a result, 26 people died, at least 25 were injured [9] .
  • April 8, 2008 - a minibus was blown up on an explosive device mounted on the road. Six people died (four of them are children), ten were injured [10] .
  • October 8, 2008 - a suicide bomber blew herself up near the city court building. Killed at least nine people, 21 injured [11] .
  • October 29, 2010 - a suicide bomber blew himself up in a city cafe. As a result, 25 people died [12] .
