Early Years and Education

Rebel Wilson was born March 2, 1980, in Sydney , New South Wales , Australia [4] . Her mother is a professional dog handler [5] [6] . Wilson grew up in the suburbs of Parramatta and Castle Hill. [7] She studied at the school "Tara Anglican School for Girls", for girls [8] [9] . She graduated from school in 1997. She took second place in the state food technology competition [10] .

Originally wanted to become a mathematician. In an interview with the Australian newspaper “The Sydney Morning Herald”, she said: “I was always very collected and got along well with math” [11] . She studied at the University of New South Wales, which she graduated in 2009 with a bachelor of arts and a bachelor's degree in law [12] .

Career

Rebel Wilson studied at an Australian teenage theater, and in 2003 won a scholarship to travel to New York to compete in The Second City. [13] Returning to Sydney, she entered the local theater, where she staged the musical The Westie Monologues [14] and then two others [15] . She later gained fame thanks to performances in various comedy television shows in Australia, and in 2008 she played a major role in her own sitcom Bogan Pride .

After moving to the United States, she signed a contract with the agency William Morris Endeavor [16] and soon starred in the film " Hen Night in Vegas ", where she played the role of the neighbor of the heroine Kristen Wiig , and also appeared in the episode of the sitcom " Rules for Living Together ." “Hen Night in Vegas” had both commercial and critical success, after which in the summer of 2011 the actress received one of the main roles in the film “ Bachelors ”, replacing Casey Wilson [17] . In the same period, she returned to Australia to star in the movie "Wedding rout", while filming in the American films "Hopeless situation", " Lightning bolt " and " What to expect when you expect a child ", which were released in the first half of 2012. At the same time, she played a major role in the comedies Perfect Voice and Blood and Sweat: Anabolics , and also took part in the dubbing of the animated film Ice Age 4: Continental Drift .

At the beginning of 2012, it was announced that Rebel Wilson sold the script for the television sitcom Super Fun Night to CBS and will act as a producer, author, and starring in the project [18] . However, the project did not receive the green light for further production by CBS and later ABC became interested in it for a possible show in 2013 [19] . In May 2013, the channel ordered a series for broadcast in the 2013-14 season [20] . The show was closed after one season.

In December 2012, Rebel Wilson was named by Forbes Magazine as one of the thirty most promising people in Hollywood under thirty [3] . After it was announced that she would be the host of the MTV Movie Awards ceremony in 2013 [21] .

After 2015, the career of the actress began to decline. She connects this fact with the publications of various media, in particular the Bauer Media media holding, about the falsification of her personal data by the actress. Wilson sued, accusing the media holding of defamation . The court held in 2017 ordered Bauer Media to pay the actress 650 Australian dollars for moral damages and another 3.9 million compensation for the missed opportunity to get new roles [22] .
