The Yaroslavl Youth Palace (the former Giant Club ) is a cultural and leisure institution in Yaroslavl in the Leninsky district, located on Karl Marx Square (intersection of October and Lenin Avenues).
Building History
The building was built in 1934 according to the project of architect I. I. Knyazev in the constructivism style. Initially, the construction was erected as a sound cinema [1] , but the building housed the Giant club, named after the giant Yaroslavl rubber-asbestos factory [2] . According to the same project, a cinema “Central” was built in Rybinsk [1] .
In 1936, the building of the Giant club was reconstructed: the stage was expanded, club premises were built on.
During World War II, artists of Estonia were evacuated here. Here they lived and worked. Creative associations of the future Estonian art have been created in the city [3] .
In 1963, the second reconstruction took place with a partial superstructure of the second floor [4] . In Perestroika, the club moved away from the Tire Plant [2] . In 1994, Alexander Isaevich Solzhenitsyn performed at the club [3] . In 2005-2009, the building was reconstructed [5] . Since 2005, attempts have been made to join the Giant club to the philharmonic society [6] . Since 2010, it has hosted GAU YAO “Palace of Youth”, which is a subordinate institution of the Agency for Youth Affairs of the Yaroslavl Region [3] .
