Biography

Carol Joseph Bobko was born in New York in a family with Lithuanian roots [1] . He studied at the New York Brooklyn Technical School , Air Force Academy (1959), University of Southern California (1970).

Admitted to the NASA astronaut group (National Space Agency) in 1969. Bobko flew three times into space: for the first time as a pilot — April 4—9, 1983 (STS-6), April 12—19, 1985 (STS-51-D) and October 2—7, 1985 (STS-51-J) - as a commander. He is the first man to fly into space on three different space shuttles [2] . As a pilot flew over 6,600 hours, as an astronaut was in space for 386 hours.

Three times awarded by NASA medals for participation in space flights, two NASA medals for excellent service, the Order of Merit and other prestigious awards.

In 1988, he retired from NASA and the United States Air Force , worked at the company Booz Allen Hamilton in Houston (Texas), which is engaged in human space flight. Since 2000, Vice President of Strategic Programs at Spacehab, Inc. in Houston . In 2005, he became the program manager of the NASA SimLabs contract at SAIC . May 7, 2011 was introduced to the Astronaut Hall of Fame [3] .
