Biography

Togon made active attempts to restore the Mongol Empire under the banner of the Choros clan, begun by his father. He occupied the influential position of the first Taisha Minister of the Supreme Khan of Mongolia, crowding out all rivals. He managed to elevate his henchman Genghisid Togto-Bugu to the khan’s throne, who began to rule under the name of Taisun-khan , and Togon controlled all state affairs in the country autonomously. Togon, himself not being a Genghisid and Borjigin , could not declare himself a khan, and therefore gave his daughter in marriage to Taisun Khan. This caused discontent both within the country of large Oirat and Mongol feudal lords, and abroad, especially in the Minsk Empire .

In the 1430s, Togon was able to assert his authority over all Oyrat nomadic associations and defeat his main rival - the protege of large Mongol feudal lords to the East Mongol taishi Argutai , who was actively supported by China. Having become the sole actual ruler of Mongolia, the Oirat Taishi was going to military relations with the Minsk Empire, however , he died during the preparation of the war with China in 1439 , and was replaced by the son of Esen-taisha as the first Taisha Minister under the Mongolian Taisun Khan .
