History
A. Alekhin made a detailed analysis of the variation and believed that the move 3.Kb1-c3 gives White more chances to gain a first advantage than the traditional continuation of the Slavic defense 3.Kg1-f3, as it creates tension in the center.
Continuation 3 ... Kg8-f6 4.Kg1-f3 d5: c4 5.e2-e4 was introduced into practice by A. Tolush and E. Geller .
Key Ideas
White seeks to develop the initiative in the center, without stopping in front of the pawn sacrifice. However, Black has sufficient resources for protection in those cases when he manages to maintain the semi-closed character of the pawn structure, while an attempt to aggravate the position is fraught with considerable risk for them.
