International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics

The main objectives of the Union are:

• to organize the connection between scientists and organizations engaged in scientific work in all areas of theoretical and applied mechanics and related sciences, including analytical, computational and experimental studies;
• organize international congresses of theoretical and applied mechanics under the guidance of the Congress committee (Art. XII), and organize other international meetings on theoretical and applied mechanics;
• engage in other activities that should contribute to the development of mechanics, both theoretical and applied, as sections of science.

Adopted by the General Assembly on August 18, 2004 in Warsaw, Poland

The supreme body of the Union is the General Assembly.

It was founded in September 1922, when Theodor von Karman held a conference in Innsbruck to discuss the issues of hydrodynamics and aerodynamics. Since 1947, IUTAM is a member of the International Council of Science . In 2010, IUTAM included more than 450 active members from 55 countries and 18 organizations.

From 1995 to 2011, Russia was represented in the General Assembly of IUTAM by G. G. Cherny .

Since 1924, international congresses on theoretical and applied mechanics have been held ^[1] . Below is a list of them.
