Lee Young- ee ( cor. 이영애 ; born January 31, 1971 , Seoul , South Korea ) is a South Korean actress and model. She starred in such films as “ Empathy with Madame Revenge ” (2005), “ United Security Zone ” (2000), “ Once in the Spring ” (2001), as well as in the television series “The Pearl of the Palace ” (2003-2004). For her role in the film “Empathy with Madame Revenge” she was awarded the Blue Dragon Prize as the best actress [1] .

Biography
Lee began her career on television, starring in commercials and TV shows. In 2000, she played the role of a military investigator in the film “ United Security Zone ” by Pak Chan Uk , where Lee Byung Hong and Song Kang Ho starred with her. In 2003, the actress, along with Yu Zhi Te, played a major role in the melodrama Once Upon a Time. For her role in this film, Lee received the Pusan Film Critics Awards as Best Actress [2] .
In 2004, Lee starred in the popular Korean television series Pearl of the Palace [3] , which was watched by three billion people in ninety countries around the world [4] . In 2005, almost half of Hong Kong’s population watched the final episode of the drama [5] , while in China, hundreds of millions of viewers watched the drama, despite the fact that it was shown late at night [6] .
In 2005, at the Venice Film Festival, the final part of the trilogy about the revenge of Pak Chan Uk , “ Compassion for Lady Revenge, ” with Lee in the lead role, was released. The film won the CinemAvvenire Award at the Small Golden Lion Film Festival, and the Blue Dragon Award in Best Actress and Best Film nomination in Korea [1] . In 2006, Lee joined the jury of the 56th Berlin International Film Festival . She became the first South Korean actress invited to the jury of the Berlin Film Festival [7] .
Lee Yong-e is involved in charity work: in 1997, she went to Ethiopia as an NGO Goodwill Ambassador, and in 2004 she was appointed Goodwill Ambassador to the UN Children's Fund - UNICEF . She published her autobiography, A Most Special Love, [8] and donated revenue from selling copies to schools and hospitals.
Personal life
On August 24, 2009, Lee secretly married an American businessman of Korean descent, Jong Ho Young, in Hawaii, [9] and on September 2 returned to Korea to start her studies at the Department of Theater and Cinematographic Arts at Hanyang University. [10] In February 2011, the couple gave birth to twins - a boy and a girl [11] .
The actress is fluent in German and English [12] .
