Patteri Timo Nummelin ( Fin. Petteri Timo Nummelin ; November 25, 1972 , Turku , Finland ) - Finnish hockey player , plays as a defender. Currently protects the colors of the TPS club. He was the record holder for the number of participation in the world championships: he took part in 15 world championships in ice hockey, having won the title of champion in the very first of them in 1995. In 2014, Swiss Matthias Zeger broke the record by taking part in the 16th championship.

Career
Club
Pupil of the hockey school of the club "Turku". At the beginning of his career he played for the Finnish clubs Kiekko-67 and TPN, then for the Swedish Frölund and the Swiss Davos.
In 2000, in the NHL draft, he was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets club in the 5th round under the 133rd number [1] . In the first season, he played 61 matches, gaining 16 points (4 + 12). In 2001, he moved to the Swiss club Lugano, where he became one of the best players on the team. In 2006, he returned to the NHL, having spent two seasons with the Minnesota Wild. As a result, for three seasons in the NHL he scored 45 points (6 + 39) in 139 games [2] . In 2008, he returned to Lugano, where he played until 2012, after which he moved to the TPN team.
Starting from the 2008/2009 season, negotiations began on the transfer of Nummelin to one of the KHL clubs. The first club that expressed a desire to acquire a defender was Minsk Dynamo , which until the spring of 2010 had negotiations with the Finns, but he did not want to terminate the contract with Lugano ahead of schedule [3] . In the summer of 2010, Nummelin contacted representatives of SKA [4] .
Team
In the Finnish national team U18, Nummelin made his debut in the 1989/1990 season, two years later he played in the youth national team. The debut in the main team took place in 1994. Over the course of his playing career, Petteri turned out to have eight medals: the Olympic silver medal of the Games in Turin and seven medals of the World Cup. He won the highest dignity at the 1995 World Cup in Sweden, bringing the national team the first ever victory at the World Cup [3] .
Speaking at the 2010 World Cup, Petteri broke the record of Jiri Holik and Sven Tumba-Johansson [3] , who took part in 14 world championships: for Nummelin, this championship was the 15th in his career. According to the results of the 2010 World Cup, he was recognized as the best defender of the tournament [5] .
