The Uber Cup , sometimes called the Women's Badminton World Championship , is a two-year world badminton championship.
In 1950, British badminton player Elizabeth Uber (née Corbin) put forward the idea of holding a world championship in badminton among women's teams - similar to the Thomas Cup among men's teams. The first time such a championship took place in 1957, and then took place every three years. Since 1984, the schedule has been changed: tournaments began to be held every two years simultaneously with the Thomas Cup.
