Biography

Ivan Kuzmich Polyakov was born on September 25, 1922 in a peasant family in the village of Verkhnyaya Kumashka, Yadrinsky district, Chuvash Autonomous Region of the RSFSR [1] . Chuvash . He graduated from seven classes of a school in the village of Shtanashi [2] and courses of accountants. Before conscription, he worked on a collective farm .

I.K. Polyakov was drafted into the ranks of the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army in March 1942 and sent to the Krasnodar machine gun and mortar school, where he was assigned to a mortar company. Due to the difficult situation at the front, the cadets of the school, together with the cadets of the 2nd Ordzhonikidze Infantry and Zhytomyr Infantry Schools, took up positions on the left bank of the Don in the defense zone of the 51st Army in the area of ​​the Pirozhok farm [3] . But they did not have to participate in the hostilities. According to the directive of the Supreme High Command Headquarters on July 13, 1942, all cadets with full armament were sent to the disposal of the Stalingrad Front , where they were distributed in different parts. Ivan Kuzmich was in the 128th Infantry Regiment of the 29th Infantry Division of the 64th Army . He received baptism of fire on July 21, 1942 under the village of Tsimlyanskaya [4] . In the early days of August 1942, Private I.K. Polyakov, as part of the operational group of the 64th Army, participated in a counterattack on the Aksay River, where he was seriously wounded and evacuated to the hospital.

Ivan Kuzmich returned to his unit in November 1942 and participated in the counterattack of the Soviet troops near Stalingrad , surrounded by the Stalingrad enemy group. Since the end of November, the 29th Infantry Division has been fighting on the internal front of the Stalingrad boiler. On January 1, 1943, the 64th Army was included in the Don Front . Its units participated in the liquidation of the surrounded group of Field Marshal Paulus . After the Battle of Stalingrad ended on February 6, 1943, the 64th Army entered the group of forces under the command of Lieutenant General K.P. Ivan Kuzmich during this time graduated from short-term courses of signalmen and received the rank of corporal . On March 1, 1943, the 29th Rifle Division was transformed into the 72nd Guards Rifle Division , and the 128th Rifle Regiment - into the 224th Guards Rifle Division . On the same day, as part of the 64th Army (from May 1, 1943 - the 7th Guards Army ) the division was transferred to the Voronezh Front . During the Battle of Kursk, the 72nd Guards Division held defenses near the city of Shebekino . At the end of September 1943, the advanced units of the 7th Guards Army reached the Dnieper . On the night of September 25–26, with the first airborne detachment, he crossed the water line near the village of Borodaevka and the signalman of the platoon of the Guard liaison corporal I.K. Polyakov. Having landed on the right bank, Polyakov immediately joined the battle with the German submachine gunners, diverting the fire from the crossing on itself. In the battles for the bridgehead, he destroyed 6 German soldiers. In the battles for holding the bridgehead of the guard, Corporal Polyakov participated in repulsing eight enemy counterattacks, during which he destroyed 15 troops and blew one tank with a grenade. During the assault on the prevailing heights, Ivan Kuzmich replaced the deceased company commander and completed the mission. By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 26, 1943, for successfully crossing the Dnieper, firmly securing the bridgehead on its western shore, and showing courage and heroism to the guard, Corporal Polyakov Ivan Kuzmich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.

In November 1943, Ivan Kuzmich was again seriously wounded. After recovery, he was sent to another unit, who fought on the 1st Ukrainian Front . I.K. Polyakov participated in the liberation of Western Ukraine , the southern regions of Poland , battles in Germany . He ended the battle path in Czechoslovakia . After the end of World War II, Ivan Kuzmich continued to serve in the army. In 1958, he graduated from the Poltava Military Infantry School. In reserve I.K. Polyakov resigned as captain in 1964. He lived in the city of Kiev . He worked at the Khimvolokno production association. August 2, 1993, Ivan Kuzmich died. He was buried in Ukraine in the hero city of Kiev.
