Biography
Ivan Vlasenko was born on December 22, 1907 in the village of Dubovichi (now - Krolevets district of Sumy region of Ukraine ) into a peasant family. In 1919 he graduated from an incomplete secondary school in his native village, then worked at a sawmill, at the railway stations Krolevets , Konotop , Romny . In 1929, Vlasenko was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army with the Maymak District Military Commissariat of the Arkhangelsk Region . In 1933, he graduated from the joint cavalry school in Borisoglebsk . He took part in the battles at Khalkhin Gol [1] .
Since August 1941 - on the fronts of World War II. He took part in the battles on the Karelian , South-Western , 3rd Ukrainian and 1st Belorussian fronts. In 1942 he joined the CPSU (B.) . By July 1944, Guard Lieutenant Colonel Ivan Vlasenko commanded the 137th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 47th Guards Rifle Division of the 8th Guards Army . He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Ukrainian SSR [1] .
On July 18, 1944, the Vlasenko regiment received the task of breaking through the deeply layered enemy defenses north-west of the village of Olshanka [2] of the Volyn Region and liberating the city of Lyuboml . Vlasenko developed a plan and did a lot of preparatory work. At first, his regiment captured the trenches, then the height of 220.8, thereby breaking through the line of defense. On July 19, the regiment successfully occupied Lyuboml. On July 20, the regiment went to the state border of the USSR and with two battalions crossed the Western Bug and captured the bridgehead . In the future, this bridgehead gave the division units the opportunity to launch an offensive. In total, for 4 days of the offensive, the Vlasenko regiment marched 125 kilometers with battles, destroying about 1,500 enemy soldiers and officers, 3 self-propelled guns Ferdinand , 15 easel machine guns , captured 125 people, freed 18 settlements [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, for the "exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the fight against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown" of the guard, Lieutenant Colonel Ivan Vlasenko was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Medal Star ” under number 5183 [1] .
After the war, Vlasenko continued to serve in the Soviet Army. In 1958, with the rank of colonel, he was transferred to the reserve. He lived in Kislovodsk , died on September 29, 1995 [1] .
He was awarded two orders of Lenin, four orders of the Red Banner , orders of Alexander Nevsky , World War 1 degree and the Red Star , the Polish Order of Virtuity Military , 5th grade, as well as a number of Soviet and foreign medals [1] .
