Biography
Kayla Harrison was born in Middletown, Ohio [1] on July 2, 1990. At the age of six, she began to practice judo - she was brought into sport by her mother, who has a black judo belt [2] . Her first coach was Daniel Doyle; by the age of 15, she had already twice won national championships. Soon after she reached 15 years old, it was revealed that Doyle, taking advantage of his position, entered into sexual intercourse with Kayla [2] . She initially hid it from others, but then told everything to her friend, also involved in judo, Aron Handy. He passed this to Kayla's mother, who, in turn, immediately notified the police. Doyle pleaded guilty in court and received 10 years in prison. [2] A month after Kaylaβs mother became aware of what happened to her daughter, she took her from the city where they lived, and Kayla began to train with world champion and Olympic bronze medalist Jimmy Pedro and his father in Boston [2] [3] . In 2006, she won the gold medal at the Pan American Junior Championships [1] .
In 2008, Kayla Harrison moved from the weight category up to 63 kg to the category up to 78 kg. She was selected to participate in the 2008 Olympic Games , but then she was not able to pass the qualifying competitions. However, in the same year she became the winner of the Junior World Judo Championship [1] . In 2009, Kayla won a silver medal in a similar competition, thus becoming the second American athlete in history to make her way to the final of the World Judo Junior Championship twice [1] .
At the 2010 World Cup, Harrison won the under 78 kg category [4] . Prior to this, the last time a US representative won the world judo championships in 1999, it was her coach Jimmy Pedro [5] ( Birmingham, 1999 ). In the same year, she became the bronze medalist of the Pan American Championship . A year later, in 2011, she, on the contrary, won a bronze medal at the World Championships , but a gold medal at the Pan American competition . Also in 2010, she became the winner of various Judo World Cups - in Birmingham , Sao Paulo , the winner of the US Open, etc. [one]
London Summer Olympics

After the Olympics
In 2013, Kyleβs achievements looked like this: bronze at the Pan American Championship, silver at the Uruguayan Cup, gold at the Argentine Cup and US Championship in the senior nomination.
In 2014, she won one bronze medal at the World Cup , two silver medals at the World Cup in El Salvador and the Grand Slam in Russia, and two gold medals at the Grand Prix of Cuba and the World Cup in Miami.
